# Machining the First Hardware

With the foundation plate completed, the project moves beyond preparation and into the manufacture of the first dedicated DIY 5-axis components.

In this episode, the first custom parts designed specifically for the 5-axis conversion are produced. These components represent the beginning of the actual hardware that will eventually transform the Snapmaker Artisan into a functioning 5-axis CNC system.

## Key Points

### From Foundation to Hardware

For the first time, components are manufactured that are directly intended for the DIY 5-axis system rather than the supporting infrastructure around it.

### CAM Preparation

The toolpaths and machining strategies required to manufacture the components are prepared and reviewed before machining begins.

### Workholding

The previously manufactured foundation plate is put to use as the basis for securing and machining the new components. To support the requirements of the new parts, the foundation itself is further adapted and expanded as the project progresses.

### Manufacturing the Components

The first dedicated DIY 5-axis parts are machined and prepared for future assembly and refinement.

### Building Towards Assembly

While these parts are not yet the finished system, they establish the foundation for the assembly and refinement work that follows in the next stages of the project.

### Downloads

The downloadable files represent the project state shown in this episode.

They can be used as a reference while following along with the video or as a starting point for those who wish to manufacture the components themselves and continue with the next stages of the project.

# Agent Instructions: Querying This Documentation

If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://miwicnc.gitbook.io/miwicnc/build-with-me/diy-5-axis-cnc-for-the-snapmaker-artisan/machining-the-first-hardware.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.
